Access Networks for Broadband Services

Objectives:

Telecommunication is no more telephony only. Already now more and more intelligence is installed in switched networks, data transmission is an obvious service, ISDN is available in growing percentage of subscriber areas and moving pictures and video and high quality audio transmission are to be introduced in next few years.These services require broadband transmission. Architecture, devices and methods of transmission for this type of a network is very different from that what was used until now. Review of the problems connected with access network - the part of the network being most close to the subscriber - will be given und discussed.

The audience should be familiar with basic notions of telecommunication networks, frequency allocation, digitalization of signals.

Tutor:

Krzysztof AMBORSKI was born in Lublin, POLAND in 1941. He received a M.Sc. in 1964 from Warsaw Technical University in Telecommunication, M.A. in 1971 from University of Warsaw in Mathematics, Ph.D. in 1972 from Warsaw Technical University in Technical Sciences (Control Systems). He is the author of more than 70 papers published on conferences and in scientific periodicals, 15 textbooks having many editions, 4 book translations and numerous reviews for "Mathematical Review" and "Electrotechnical Review". He is a member of AMS, PTETiS, SEP PTM, PTI and other societies. He is currently assistant professor at Warsaw Technical University and an expert in Telekomunikacja Polska S.A.
