Dr Krzysztof AMBORSKI, Bureau of Value Added Services
Telekomunikacja Polska S.A., Warszawa, Poland
Objectives:
Telecommunication is no more telephony only. Already now
more and more intelligence is installed in switched networks, data
transmission is an obvious service, ISDN is available in growing
percentage of subscriber areas and moving pictures and video and
high quality audio transmission are to be introduced in next few
years. These services require broadband transmission. Architecture,
devices and methods of transmission for this type of a network is
very different from that what was used until now. Review of the
problems connected with access network - the part of the network
being most close to the subscriber - will be given und discussed.
Content:
The topics cover:
Introduction
Services and demands
Types of architecture for access networks: HFC, ADSL, FTTC, FTTH
Passive and active optical networks
Multiplexing of downstream
Frequency bands and transceiver layout
Signal transmission
Sources of video signal
Demands for the stream
SIF
Methods of compression: JPEG, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, coding H.261
Quality of services
Frame Relay, modes of transmission, logic channels, access devices
Target Audience:
The audience should be familiar with basic notions
of telecommunication networks, frequency allocation, digitalization
of signals.
